Fortress of Volissos |

| |
| As the main defense stronghold of north Chios, Volissos protected all the northwestern part of the island called Amani, whose villages contained various fortifications-watch towers, signal towers, etc., according to their population and location. The Fortress of Volissos, which is very well preserved today, is of a trapezoid shape with six circular towers. Inside the castle there were several buildings, cisterns and churches. There was also a tunnel connecting the castle with the seashore and the Pithonas district. Anne Comnena refers to it in her Alexiada. |
