| Driving licenses issued by any European Union state are honored, but in theory (and increasingly in practice) an International Driving License is required by all other drivers. This must be arranged before departure, as ALNA (the Greek motoring association) no longer issues IDLs to foreign nationals. Note that some brochure prices in Greece may not include tax, collision damage waiver (CDW) and personal insurance. CDW in particular is absolutely vital, as the coverage included by law in the basic rental fee is generally inadequate, so check the small print on your contract. Be careful of the hammering that cars get on dirt tracks, tires, windshield and the underside of the vehicle are almost always excluded from even supplementary insurance policies. All agencies will want either a credit card or a large cash deposit up front. | |
