Kalamoti

typical medieval architecture, Kalamoti, Chios

Kalamoti is  about 20.5 Km south of Chios town. It is a traditional village with two storey stone houses and beautiful carved doors. The village has approximately 850 inhabitants, mostly mastic cultivators.  South of Kalamoti is the significant church of Panagia Agrelopou. North of Kalamoti there is a medieval tower of Zyvos which was destroyed by the earthquake of 1881. Near the tower’s remains, is the Byzantine church Panagia Sikelia. Near the village is Komi, one of the most famous beaches of the island.
