Cafes, Clubs, Chios nightlife

Chios offers a lot of options to spend your evenings. Most of all in Chios-City, the capital of the island, you will find many bars surrounding the port. Due to the fact that the Aegean University of Economics is located in the city, many students live here.

 

Take your time and order a frappe in one of the bars and join the Greeks in their favorite activity: watching people and cars go by. On the weekends, you can also see them play backgammon, a game, which can be borrowed in most of the cafιs.

 

If you want to go out in the evenings, you can choose between the bars of which many of them are open until late in the night and a few clubs in the city of Chios and the surrounding area. Most of the clubs are open only in summer.

 

If you would rather spend a typical Greek evening out you should visit a restaurant or tavern with live music. Here, you can listen to a special kind of Greek music called rembetiko.

 

Of course there are not only bars in the capital of the island. You can find them in nearly every village. Especially in the places like Karfas or Komi, where a lot of tourists spend there vacations, you will find several cafιs along the beach. In the smaller villages in the centre of the island you will find the kafeneions, a typical Greek cafι were usually only men go to have a coffee, meet and talk.

 

You may enjoy your coffee at the port of Chios, where most of the cafes are located or at Karfas beach. Nice Cafes will be found in most places, especially the most touristic ones like Megas Limnionas, Agia Fotia, Komi, Lithi, Limnia as well as in all villages.
